WHY CREAPURE?

Alzchem has tested creatine products from all over the world. Analyses* of all the samples showed that Creapure® is the purest source of creatine. Regulators have stepped up their monitoring of nutritional ingredients, particularly with regard to impurities. The EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) recommends that a creatine product should not exceed :

  • DCD levels of 50 mg/kg
  • DHT levels of 3 mg/kg

The graph shows the average results for 9 different Creapure® creatine monohydrate products and 20 different generic creatine monohydrate products. The average amounts of DCD and DHT found in the generic creatine products far exceeded the levels recommended by EFSA. It is important to note that DHT-related compounds are suspected of causing cancer. *based on analysis from 01/2019

HOW DOES CREATINE WORK?

Creatine works primarily through its effects on energy metabolism. Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) is a molecule that transports energy within cells and is the main source of fuel for high-intensity exercise. When cells use ATP as an energy source, the molecule is converted into adenosine diphosphate (ADP) and adenosine monophosphate (AMP). Creatine exists in cells in the form of creatine phosphate (or phosphocreatine), which gives up a high-energy phosphate group to ADP, converting this molecule into ATP.

By increasing the overall pool of cellular phosphocreatine, creatine supplementation can accelerate the recycling of ADP into ATP, rapidly replenishing cellular energy reserves. This increased availability of energy can lead to improvements in strength and power.

PSYCHOLOGICAL BENEFIT?

Although creatine has been studied much more for its effects on physical performance than for its effects on cognitive performance and mental health, it could nevertheless offer benefits in certain contexts. Research indicates that creatine may reduce mental fatigue in highly stressful situations, such as those involving sleep deprivation or intense exercise. In addition, creatine may improve certain aspects of memory, particularly in people with below-average creatine levels, such as vegetarians and the elderly. Preliminary evidence also suggests that creatine may reduce symptoms of depression in individuals with major depressive disorder or bipolar disorder.
