Biography

Luc Rousseau, whom the combat sports world knows as “Doberman,” is one of those athletes who built themselves against the tide. Born on November 20, 1987, in Montluçon, he trained in Hérault before seeking, wherever necessary, opponents tougher than him. Far from the classic federal circuits, he forged himself alone, off the beaten path, until he became one of the best French grapplers.

His playground is close combat. A Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt under the legend Dean Lister, having passed through the MMA Factory, he claims more than three hundred fights across all disciplines. In professional MMA, his record speaks for itself: seven wins, no losses, and a strong taste for finishing, as almost all of his victories ended before the limit, most often by submission.

But it is on the grappling mats that Doberman has written his finest lines. Three-time French champion, three-time European championship medalist, three-time world championship medalist, finalist of the 2016 ADCC Europe Trials: his record spans over a decade. In 2025, he finally won the title he was missing, European grappling champion with the French team, conquered in Warsaw, a city where he lived for a long time and considers his second home in Europe.

What distinguishes Luc Rousseau is not just technique. It’s an extraordinary mindset and this ability to beat world champions, sometimes with very little preparation. He sums up his strength in three words: experience, strategy, and technique. At an age when many hang up their gloves, he continues to train hard, travel to train at the highest level, even if it means sacrificing part of his personal and professional life.

Today, Doberman transmits as much as he fights. Head coach of the Vietnam national team, he regularly conducts grappling workshops in France and Switzerland and is preparing the next phase of his career around teaching. His goal remains sporting: to win gold at the world championships, after the bronze won in 2021. For the rest, as he says himself, he wants to continue to transmit, as he already does around the world.
