NMN, nicotinamide mononucleotide, the future for anti-ageing?

NMN, or nicotinamide mononucleotide, is a premium dietary supplement that is fast becoming one of the most sought-after anti-ageing superfoods for consumers.

The Best Way to Increase Your NAD+ Levels

How does NMN work?

NMN helps to support whole body function and reverse the effects of aging. So when you perform better on the inside, it shows on the outside.

NMN is a precursor to the creation of NAD (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) which is vital to cell function and, amongst other things, is essential for repairing damage to your cells and DNA.

NAD+ levels decline rapidly with age, with NAD+ levels reduced by up to 50 % after the age of 30. NMN supplementation powerfully stimulates NAD+ production and can increase insulin sensitivity, reverse mitochondrial dysfunction and extend the lifespan of ageing populations.

Studies have shown that replenishing NMN is a positive step in helping your body repair cellular damage and support your body as you age.

Why not complete directly with NAD?

NAD supplementation is degraded in the small intestine by intestinal epithelial cells. It is then converted to NMN by several intestinal enzymes. However, if you take NMN, the body will convert it to NAD without significant degradation. Therefore, it is much more effective to supplement with NMN to increase your NAD levels.

Experimental trials bring hope

Experiments conducted at Harvard Medical School by Prof. David Sinclair on NMN have been carried out on mice and have produced impressive clinical results.

Prof. Sinclair and his colleagues gave NMN to two-year-old mice. After just one week of treatment, they found improvements in muscle (reduced muscle wasting), improved insulin resistance and reduced inflammation that made these mice indistinguishable from real young mice. Dr Nigel Turner, a pharmacologist at the Australian University of NSW, said: " It is as if a sixty year old man is similar to a twenty year old man in some ways. "Professor Sinclair added: " If these results hold, ageing can be a reversible condition, if treated early. "

Can we find NMN in food?

NMN is a derivative of vitamin B3, which occurs naturally in the body and can be obtained from food sources such as fruit, milk and vegetables.

Although NMN is naturally present in many food sources, a study showed that one would need to consume 100 kg of broccoli, 69 kg of avocado or 416 kg of beef to obtain 250 mg of NMN per day.

What about physical performance?

  • NMN works very quickly to increase performance and does not need to be loaded like creatine or beta alanine.

  • The study below shows that NMN can increase aerobic capacity performance by up to 30 % in trained athletes, which beats beta-alanine by far.
